Many people chose to have a blind as their sole window dressing as this provides a chic yet uncluttered look which is ideal for small rooms. Alternatively blinds can be used in conjunction with traditional curtains in place of old fashioned net curtains as they are also the perfect choice to keep prying eyes from seeing into your rooms!
Blinds fitted inside the recess of a window provides a stylish window dressing, however these are not really suitable for windows which open inwards as they simply get in the way!
However, when fitted inside the recess they do enable window sills to be fully utilised for displaying vases of flowers or personal objects or small table lamps.
The humble blind has come along way since its more common use for colonial style homes and offices. Designers have made huge advancements in the operating and control techniques, making noisy blinds a thing of the past irrespective of what material they are made from. Remote controlled blinds offer effortless operation and are ideal for awkward or hard to reach windows.
Venetian blinds are still the most popular window treatment in offices in classical white or aluminium. However, they are also included in many people's home as their versatility is second to none when it comes to controlling light and privacy. The colour ranges and finishes available enable a blind of any colour to be found. The latest designs included perforated slats which allow small amounts of light to permeate into the room.
Sassy metallic and pearlised are great window treatments in modern homes while leather slats are becoming an increasingly popular choice for bedrooms!
Bathrooms and kitchens were the more traditional places for people to use blinds as they offer complete privacy and are easy to maintain and clean. Modern blinds are made from durable and robust materials which are specially coated to prevent mildew and dust accumulating on the slats.
Roller blinds continue to be popular with many modern designs using the latest digital photography to enable all manner of images to be added. It is even possible to have customised blinds with photographic images of your children or pets!
Roman blinds are a great alternative window dressing. Made in soft fabrics these can be purchased ready made or in kit form to enable you to coordinate the blind fabric with the rest of your soft furnishings.
Vertical blinds are the ideal heat and light insulators in south facing rooms and conservatories. Made from durable fabrics they offer full versatility for controlling the amount of light entering a room. With fully adjustable louver controls the amount of light can be simply adjusted as required. They are also the ideal choice for patio doors as they can be stacked back to one side to enable easy access and egress into a garden or patio area.
If you are ever in a quandary as to the type of window dressing to use it is well worth considering the wonderful variety and styles of blinds available.
Wood blinds are the perfect choice for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. If you are ever in doubt about the colour of a window dressing opt for a natural wood blind as they blend effortlessly with any colour scheme. |
