Romantic Movies for Valentine's Day

Romance is in the air on Valentine's Day. Instead of an expensive dinner in an overcrowded restaurant on Valentine's Day why not celebrate at home with a movie and dinner. Romantic movies are appropriate and fun but any favorite movie will do. Take the theme of the movie and incorporate it through the dinner menu and other gifts.

Sleepless in Seattle
Probably one of the all time favorites for romantic movies because the story climaxes on Valentine's Day in New York City at the top of the Empire State Building just at closing time. Seattle is known for seafood so shrimp, crab or lobster would be appropriate for dinner. Finish off with a coffee flavored dessert. Add a floppy teddy bear and you're set.

Wuthuring Heights
A stormy, dark and rather sad love story with a stormy dark hero and a rather sad heroine. It takes place on the English moors. The 1939 version with Merle Oberon, Laurence Olivier and David Niven is one of the best. Add a copy of the classic book to the gift package along with a cozy throw. A bouquet of heather would be the perfect touch. Dinner? Well the English aren't known for their cuisine but roast beef would be good.

Gone With The Wind
The line "Frankly my dear I don't give a damn." is immortal. Another stormy romance set in the civil war south. Beautiful costumes and scenery almost overshadow the drama, almost. This movie was only made once which is understandable. No one could pout as Scarlett like Vivien Leigh and can you picture anyone else but Clark Gable as Rhett Butler? Take a cue from the setting and serve a picnic of friend chicken, potato salad, biscuits and of course pecan pie for dessert. And get out that parasol.

Enchanted
This is not a kid's movie but it is a movie a kid would enjoy. The premise is what would happen if a fairy tale princess was separated from her fairy tale prince right before their wedding and flung into the nitty gritty world of modern day New York City. Yes, there is true love, a kiss that awakens sleeping beauty and one of the best villainesses of all time makes a comeback. Strip steak with classic steakhouse sides of creamed spinach and fries would make a good menu. Make sure you have candied apples for dessert. Like the prince says "What's not to like?"
