Interior Design : Decorating Your Beautiful Bay Windows

Generally seen in older homes, bay windows are mostly popular for their lovely design features and proportions. However, since these homes tend to have problems of little or no insulation, it is always better to decorate bay windows with window accessories such as curtains in order to reduce the heat loss and draughts.

While planning to decorate your bay window, it is necessary that you consider it as one whole unit unlike individual windows, or it is likely for the bay window to lose its beautiful design features and become cluttered.

That is why bay windows are usually decorated using a curtain rod, pole, or track following with the line of the window. If you are concerned about privacy, then sheers can be a good choice. However, with bay windows, you wouldn't want to hide the outside view and avoid the attractive choice of doing something to keep your home warm at nights.

So, bay windows can best be complemented by floor length curtains hanging from a ceiling mounted pole, rod, or track and capable of being drawn back to either side of the windows. In case you don't have fixing areas for a ceiling mounted track or if you simply wish to add some variation, then you can use the wall itself as the line for curtains. This means you can use a standard curtain pole but remember that this can work only for bay windows having a lowered ceiling.

For adding decoration to the window and hiding the curtain pole, window valance can be a great option. Adding roman blinds in extremely dark coloured fabrics simply causes the bay window to lose its wonderful design form. The curtains and valance, however, always seem to work well with space as well as appearance of the bay window and the room.

A bay window treated in similar fashion sometimes appears as a pelmet. You can use a curtain pole along the line of the bay window. You can also use a window valance as a highly ornate tapestry for cleverly hiding the curtain pole. This can add a double feature to your bay window.

It is also crucial to opt for a curtain design that will best complement your window as well as the decor of your room. To give a rich, dignified appearance to your room, have your bay window framed with magnificent velvet curtains.

A rich, glorious ornate tapestry valance can be a wonderful icing on the cake. With rich velvet curtains for your bay windows, you can easily envision the look of night once the curtains are drawn and offer a lovely soft lined touch to your room during the day time.

It is not very difficult to decorate your bay windows, but the most crucial point you need to consider during the whole process is your bay window curtain poles. Poles can make a huge difference, especially when it comes to hanging up the curtains properly. They can influence the fall and the subtle folds of the curtains. Having the right curtain poles for your bay windows is the first thing you need to consider if you are planning to decorate them with curtains instead of window blinds.
