There is no doubt that white is the predominant colour used in many homes to create stylish and chic interiors. There are great advantage of using white in every room of your home.
* As it is a neutral colour you can inject as much or as few others colours into the room via furniture, soft furnishings, flooring and window dressings.
* White provides the illusion of more space which is ideal for small rooms.
* Natural light can be effectively reflected off white walls and ceilings to provide an airy feel.
* White is associated with pureness and cleanliness! Making the perfect choice if you are fastidious about the cleanliness of your home or simply want to achieve a crisp, clean look.
* This colour can e used effectively in all styles of homes, from traditional, modern and contemporary, white creates a wonderful sleek and refined look to a room.
Are there any disadvantages of using white?
Many will argue that there are no disadvantages of using white whilst those who adore colour will argue fervently that it creates plain, boring and starkness to homes!
* It can become grubby and shabby looking quickly, intense sunlight can fade the colour, but then if it is that intense it would fade any colour!
* Never have white if you smoke as it will become a dingy yellow nicotine stained very easily. If you want to include white in your home it may be just the incentive you need to give up smoking?
* Many people will argue that white and children are not a good combination, however if you buy paint which is washable grubby finger marks can easily be removed.
Rooms which look stunning white.
* Bathrooms:
Bathrooms in white are ideal fro creating a sense of cleanliness within a bathroom, which is an important factor for many people. Colour can still be included by the window dressing, bath matt and collections of perfume bottles or shells.
The coloured bathroom suites seen in the seventies are now considered to be very outdated. The return of white bathrooms suites has seen a revival in recent years, however some of the latest bathroom design concepts are to have boldly coloured acrylic bathtubs or roll top baths which have white interiors and dramatic colours on the exterior.
Bedrooms:
As with lounges white is a favourite principle colour to create haven of peace, tranquillity and calmness which in conducive to sleep and relaxation. Again colour can be injected via window dressings, rugs and furniture.
Dining areas:
This one area where white may not be the predominant colour. However, large dining rooms which have natural coloured wood dining suites typically take centre stage.
Hallways:
If you have a corridor type of hallway white can make it appear larger, however you will need to be careful if you opt for white in this high traffic area as it can become shabby very quickly.
* Living areas:
White living areas are ideal for modern and contemporary interior design styles. Accent pieces such as a modern table lamps and clever use of soft furnishings are where colour is used within the room. Many interior designers opt for entirely white rooms to create very chic and sleek looks. |
