The office in which you work you spend a huge amount of time, almost as much time if not more than you spend in your own home. How you design and set out your personal space at home is usually very important, so why wouldn't your office space have as much time considered on it, after all the way a space is used can influence your mood dramatically. A business will wish to make sure the space in which its employees work in is both functional and creates the best working environment. So if something as simple as rearranging your office furniture could change the whole way your company works you would want to know how to do this.

Feng shui is the ancient Chinese system of aesthetics that is believed to use the laws of both heaven and earth to improve the physical life by receiving positive Qi, the energy flow that sustains life on earth. The literal translation of Feng shui is 'wind-water' in English and practicing Feng shui requires an accurate Chinese compass in order to determine the positive parts of your desired location.

So how can Feng shui effect the office environment? Creating a harmonised environment can create blessings or beneficial energy within the work place. Changing your surroundings and office furniture could create harmony, abundance and well being for you and your employees. Think that is unlikely? Successful businesses such as Virgin Airways, Microsoft, Midland bank, Harvey Nichols and the offices of The Wall Street Journal all use Feng shui to improve their business and the synchronisation within it.

So how does one go about changing the office or work place in order to sync with the heavens and earth? Well there are some small factors that can be considered without massively changing the office. Simple things like keeping employees sat with a solid wall behind their back can ensure that they have support in their life. Workers should not work with a window placed behind them!

Objects such as telephones, computers and fax machines should all be kept in the wealth area of the room in order to generate more business. The leader of the company should keep a dragon on the right hand side of their desk facing a window or a door, the dragon seeks out the pearl and a window or door can represent this.

The office and office furniture should be rid of any cactus plants, cactus plants create 'shar chi' and that is both fierce and sharp-not a chi you want to have in your office! Also, a manager's office should never have two doors; the positive chi will enter the room and then exit, leaving you with no positive chi.

Finally, the office should always be kept clutter free, all office furniture to be kept clean and tidy. This can be hugely important in order to keep the chi positive within your office and will make the working environment just generally easier and clearer.

What employer would object to having an office kept tidy? Not many, it is interesting to see just how small little changes and adaptations within an office can change the whole way in which the company works. So why not change yours and Feng shui your office today and see how the positive chi can start influencing you and your workforce!
