Interior Design : Liven Up That Interior On A Budget

Interior design goes through many phases. Just as you think you have it right, along comes another fashion that puts everything you have done in the shade. It's all very well if you can afford to be an interior fashion victim and change your decor with the seasons but let's be honest - who can be bothered?
Better to find a style that you like, keeping things fairly simple but not necessarily minimalist, apply it and sit back and relax, enjoying life until you are in the mood for changing your decor again. Better to do these things when you feel like it and not be dictated to by the interior fashion gurus who change from clack to white, pink to yellow and every other extreme with the seasons to ensure you keep spending.
So, find a colour scheme that you like and use it for accent colours in your chosen room only. This ensures that you don't tire of the colour too quickly and should you feel like making a change sooner than expected, you only have to change the additions and not the base, neutral colours.
Keeping a simple base means that you can afford to change the accent colours if you wish to with the seasons or keep them year on year without becoming too bored. As far as furnishings go, the same principle is often safe. Practical, comfortable and good quality should be the first concerns when picking furniture along with budget. Getting the very best that you can afford will mean that you do not have to change it too often because it is worn out.
Soft furnishings are an important aspect to interior design and one that can become a feature or blend, that can make a statement in colour and be discreet and practical. Window treatments now come in many different forms from curtains to vertical blinds, from wooden Venetian blinds to Roman blinds.
Roman blinds are not only a practical addition to any interior decor but they also have the potential to be a bit of a show stopper too. Many modern homes are devoid of a focal point but this gives you free reign to create your own. Whatever you do, move away from the TV in the corner of the room as a focal point! This destroys interaction with other members of the household and it also means you miss out on the best of the room where you have put all the effort of getting it to look right.
Once you have decided on your colour scheme, take a look at Roman blinds. They fit neatly and practically into a window recess and are easily operated. They come with black out linings if you so wish and these are great for summer evenings in a child's bedroom or for night workers. You can go for the simple, block colour look or choose a Roman blind in an eye catching fabric.
You can also add embellishments if you so desire. Edging tassels look great and add a little opulence to the blind for that extra special feel. Or simply add a decorative pull to the lower edge of the blind, such as a crystal or wooden pull.
There are many ways you can treat your interior to give it that new lease of life without breaking the budget and Roman blinds are just one of them. You could even build your room design around the blind if you find a fabric that you fall in love with. If you are stuck for ideas there are a plethora of interior design magazines and websites out there. You won't have to look through many before you are gripped with inspiration. |
