Finding places within your home to spend time simply chilling out and relaxing after work on at the weekends is a space many people dream of! If you have sufficient rooms to include a conservatory this would make an ideal place.

Those who are lucky enough to live in warmer climates can enjoy the advantage of having an undercover, yet open outdoor sitting area. Even an old fashioned type 'lean-to' can be transform into a beautiful haven of peace and relaxation.

The great thing about these informal areas is the ability to have an eclectic mix of furniture and soft furnishings which reflects the use of the room. Light and airy colours are ideal for walls, particularly if the area does not get an abundance of natural light.

Many homes have the possibility to transform little areas, for most it is just a matter of removing the junk and clutter to give the space a specific use and identity. There is no need to spend a fortune, these areas are places to add you own individuality which can be complimentary in style to the rest of your home or have a completely different and possible a more relaxed ambience.

Choosing two colours is a great way to make the space look and feel chic, stylish and organised to perfection even though the furniture does not have to coordinate. Try mixing and including different textures to bring interest to the room. Keep the walls simple and not crammed with too many pieces of art.

Opt for white and cool greens for a style which brings a little touch of the outdoors inside! Fabrics with leaves rather than flowers make an impact and give a natural look to the room which is suitable for both men and women! This is mentioned because many people believe that too many flowers and floral fabrics make a room look to feminine and not suitable to reflect the preferred styles of men. Leaves and foliage patterns are the ideal go-between!

Include stools and coffee tables to create an informal atmosphere and places to put your feet up! Plants also add an injection of natural colour, cacti are ideal for spaces which get very hot. Add a modern table lamp which has a base in an coordinating green to enable the space to still be used as the light begins to fade.

Continue the natural theme by including cane or light wood for either the seating ot tables and bring balance with a natural 'rush' type rugs or matting.

As these spaces are typically at the back of the house and not the main living area, the window dressing does not have to offer complete privacy. Beautiful sheer voiles are a perfect choice to coordinate with the light and airy feel. However, if your conservatory or space in south facing and prone to become a hot house a better choice may be vertical blinds which can be adjusted to control the amount of light entering the room or be stacked right back to provide an unobstructed view to the exterior.
