Sure, it may still be cold and rainy outside, but spring is officially here and it's never too early to start thinking about summer house improvement projects. By starting early you can actually take advantage of some early sales, get a better idea of what you want to do and even finish your work early enough to enjoy the summer months!
Springtime is the perfect time to start a lot of outside projects that involve plants because it's the wet spring and damp early summer months that contribute the most to helping plants grow and turning your yard green. You may also want to start working on some of the exterior projects around your home while the weather is still warm and not too hot to be outside in the heat all day. Here are some great outside projects for spring:
Clean and Inspect Your Rain Gutters: The gutters of your home probably took a beating through the winter months. Ice and water and all sorts of debris from late fall can do quite a number on gutters and if you haven't replaced them in a while. You may may want to check them over for cracks or weak points. A leaky gutter could sending water against your home and that can cause wood to rot around your roof line which can lead to expensive repairs in the future.
Plant Grass: Generally the fall and spring are the best seasons to plant grass. You can plant in the fall to help your grass grow strong roots, but the spring is an excellent time as well because you can take advantage of the mild weather and rain to really start your grass growing quickly. You usually can't just throw grass seed on the ground and expect something to happen. To really get a thick lawn you'll want to read up on some tips for planting grass and be sure to use the right grass seed for your gardening zone.
Make A Raised Flower Bed: The perfect outdoor house improvement project for the spring is one which takes advantage of the mild weather and helps you prepare your home for the summer months. Making a flower bed from railroad ties is the perfect project to beautify the outside of your home just in time for summer.
Spring is a great time to get your home ready for summer. The good weather makes it easier to spend a lot of time outside and the low prices on home improvement materials and supplies usually can't be beat. A little hard work during these next few months will make the summer all the more relaxing and enjoyable! As you can see, a few minor projects can also really make your home look better cared for and may even increase your home's overall value. |
