Interior Design : Small Changes Can Have A Dramatic Affect On Your Interior Design

It is surprising just how much difference a small change can make. This could not be more true in interior design, as even the most simple of changes often has a massive impact on any room. It does not always require redecorating your walls with some new paint or completely different wallpaper, often you can create a brand new feeling in a room simply by changing the soft furnishings.

Probably the biggest and best example of this effect is in the bedroom. It is almost for certain that the bed is the biggest and most eye catching piece of furniture in any bedroom. Whenever you enter a bedroom your eyes are naturally drawn to the bed, and by setting the right mood and tone with the bed in a room you can really create the feeling you are looking for.

By intentionally having an eye catching, and holding, bed you can really draw all the focus and attention away from other areas of the room that you may not want to show off, such as old carpets or the ceiling.

If you are looking to move focus from the carpet however then rugs are a really great way to do so. They can really breathe new life in to an old carpet, and at a far smaller and affordable price than having to buy and fit a brand new carpet for the bedroom.

Yet still the eyes will be focus on the bed in any bedroom first, especially if the bed is brightly coloured, patterned or textured. This can be great for children's bedrooms where you can simply buy a really colourful bed spread and totally liven up the room.

To truly enhance the impact of your beds you can match the colours with other furnishings in the room, such as the curtains or blinds. This will bring coherence as well as consistency to the room, as well as being pleasing to the eye. You can even combine it with rugs of the same colour, or things like lamp shades.

It is important however not to go too over the top with the same or similar tones of colour in a room, otherwise you can create either a bright and garish look, or totally wash out the colours making the room look bland. It can also cause paler colours to become muted and fade into the background and brighter colours will cause the room to feel cluttered.

You can also make use of cushions in addition to your pillows, allowing for a large arrangement and for additional colours to be used. It looks great to have your pillows one colour, with you duvet and cushions a complementary or contrasting colour.

You don't just have to stop at your beds pillows and duvet covers. Changing the sheets to a different colour, or even a different material can really bring new life to your bedroom. Silk sheets really add a feel of elegance if used correctly, especially in white or try black for a sexier feel!
