One of the greatest things about interior design and decoration is that even on a very limited budget, you can make massive changes. Most of us would love to fully redecorate every room in the house with freshly painted walls, brand new carpets or laminate flooring, not to mention a whole host of new furniture.

This is not always possible though, normally due to just how expensive this can quickly become! Yet even the tightest of budgets can transform a home quickly and easily.

The biggest problems in most homes are that they are still decorated in an old and out of date fashion. Whether it is drab green carpets or antiquated furniture, most homes could really do with being pulled in to the present. The problem most people face is that they assume it is going to cost them a fortune to do, so they just never change anything. But even the dullest room can be given a new breath of life for next to nothing.

The best changes to make are big impacting ones, which cost as little as possible. Buying brand bedroom furniture suites would cost hundreds of pounds or more, but buying brand new duvet covers that will enhance the colour of the bedroom will cost you only a few pounds.

If your carpets look dated you can sneakily hide them by making use of rugs, even in areas such as landings and hallways. The rug will not only cover up the majority of the area, but will also draw the eye away from any areas that are left exposed. Just make sure you clean under the rug first!

Changing the curtains in a room can make a very large impact on how a room feels and the warmth of the room. By changing to lighter curtains that allow more light through, you can really brighten up a room and allow maximum light in. If you know how to make your own curtains you can save a lot of money, and if you can't opt for ready made curtains in the latest design styles.

Old sofas and chairs can be disguised and made to look more trendy simply by draping them in fabric throws. You can buy something suitable for no more than ten pounds and it can give the feel of a brand new living room set. The important thing is to ensure that the fabric stays on, usually by pinning or tying it at the back and underneath, otherwise the fabric will slip as the sofa or chair is used.

Possibly the cheapest and easiest way to cheer up a boring living room is to add some new cushions to the room. By using bold and bright colours you will draw the eye to the cushions. There is almost a limitless amount of variation and style of cushions to choose from, allowing you to really accent the existing colours in the room as well. Cheap cushions are possibly the easiest and yet most successful way of really cheering up any room.
