Before buying any goods we often think about the quality, but this may not be always the case. When buying rugs you should always have an idea about where they are to be placed as this may save your hard earned money.

If the rugs are to be placed in a children's room then you need to choose a rug that is not only durable but can also be cleaned easily. Whereas if you are buying a rug for your bathroom rather than a more traditional bath mat, then it should be able to soak the dampness.

Area rugs which are widely available are ideal for using in places where you want to protect your main flooring from spills and staining. For example if you want a rug for under your coffee table, then standard sized rugs can be found which enable an equidistant part of the rug to be displayed. The same principles of having equidistant edges is also perfect for use under a dining room table as these provide the protection required along with elegant style.

Opt for rugs which have patterns or a coordinating colour on the reverse as these can be flipped over should they become dirty or if you want to bring a fresh look to the room. This solution is usually only available with low cost rugs as the more expensive styles are often made of wool or wool mixtures on a robust, yet plain backing, which is similar to carpets.

Your rugs will last longer if you use rug pads underneath them which will hold them in place and protects them from becoming wrinkled. This will also reduce the risk of people slipping or tripping over, this aspect is important if you are placing a rug on a smooth floor surface such as laminate flooring or tiled floors.

Plain rugs are ideal if you have a patterned carpet to avoid a clash of too many colours and designs. Whereas a patterned rug is the ideal choice for plain carpets or flooring as they are the ideal solution for adding different texture and colours to a room.

Those who like to be 'green' can choose rugs which have been made from recycled materials. Designers have used a wide variety of mediums to create some superb rugs which are unique as well as a great way to recycle such things as old belts, men's ties, old jeans and remnants of fabrics.

However, there are so many cheap rugs available in all sorts of designs, colours, shapes and sizes there are some wonderful styles available to suit all types of homes and interior design themes. Whether you use a rug purely for the visual appearance, are using them to help protect flooring or simply like to feel the textures between your toes, rugs have been part and parcel of interiors for many hundreds of years.

They are as fashionable and 'in-trend', irrespective of the interior design style of your home, as they have always been. No longer are they solely used to help people to keep their feet warm in the winter, they are an integral part of many homes.
